SSB Sub Inspector Recruitment 2026 – 51 Vacancies

The Directorate General, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India has released an official notification for the recruitment of Sub Inspector (Staff Nurse), Sub Inspector (Pioneer) and Sub Inspector (Communication) in Group-B Non-Gazetted (Combatised) & Non-Ministerial category. The total number of vacancies is 51. These posts are temporary but likely to continue. Selected candidates are liable to serve anywhere in India or outside the territory of India.

Vacancy Details

The vacancy distribution across categories is as follows: Sub Inspector (Staff Nurse) – 10 posts (UR-7, OBC-1, SC-1, ST-1); Sub Inspector (Pioneer) – 21 posts (UR-12, EWS-1, OBC-3, SC-3, ST-2); Sub Inspector (Communication) – 20 posts (UR-9, EWS-1, OBC-5, SC-5). 10% vacancies are reserved for Ex-Servicemen.

Pay Scale

Selected candidates will be placed in Pay Matrix Level-6: Rs 35400–112400 as per the 7th Central Pay Commission. In addition, candidates will receive Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Ration Money Allowance, and other admissible allowances as per Government orders. Candidates will be covered under the New Pension Scheme (NPS) or Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) as applicable.

Eligibility Criteria

Sub Inspector (Staff Nurse): Candidates must have passed 12th class from a recognised Board or University. Additionally, they must possess a Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery from an institution recognised by the Central or State Nursing Council. The diploma duration requirements vary based on year of qualification – 3 years for those qualified before 2008, 3.5 years for 2008–2015, and 3 years with internship for those qualified after 2015-16. Candidates must also be registered as a General Nurse and Mid-wife with the Central or State Nursing Council.

Sub Inspector (Pioneer): Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from a recognised University or institute.

Sub Inspector (Communication): Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communication, Computer Science, or Information Technology Engineering, or a Science degree with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from a recognised University or institute.

Age Limit

The upper age limit for all three posts is not exceeding 30 years as on the closing date for receipt of applications (i.e., 30 days from the date of publication in the Employment News). Age relaxation is available: SC/ST – 5 years; OBC – 3 years; Ex-Servicemen – 3 years after deduction of military service; Departmental Candidates – UR 5 years, OBC 8 years, SC/ST 10 years.

Selection Process

The selection process consists of multiple stages. Stage I – Physical Efficiency Test (PET): PET will be conducted only for Sub Inspector (Communication) post. Male candidates must complete 1.6 km race in 6 minutes 30 seconds, and female candidates must complete 800 metres in 4 minutes. No PET will be conducted for Sub Inspector (Staff Nurse) and Sub Inspector (Pioneer). Ex-Servicemen are exempted from PET.

Physical Standard Test (PST): All candidates who qualify PET (and directly for Staff Nurse & Pioneer) must undergo PST. For Pioneer and Communication posts, general male candidates need a minimum height of 170 cm with chest 80 cm (minimum expansion 5 cm). For Staff Nurse, the general height requirement is 165 cm (male) and 155 cm (female).

Stage II – Written Examination (CBT): The exam is of 3 hours duration, 150 marks, with 150 MCQs. It is divided into Part-I (50 marks) covering General Knowledge, Mathematics, Reasoning and General English/Hindi, and Part-II (100 marks) covering Technical Subject. Minimum qualifying marks: 50% for UR/EWS/OBC/Ex-Servicemen and 45% for SC/ST. Final merit will be based on written examination marks only.

Stage III – Documentation, DME & RME: After written exam, candidates up to 3 times the vacancies (category-wise) will be called for document verification and Detailed Medical Examination (DME). Candidates declared unfit in DME may appeal for Review Medical Examination (RME). The RME decision is final with no second appeal.

Examination Fee

UR, EWS and OBC candidates must pay a non-refundable examination fee of ₹200/- through net banking, credit/debit card or UPI. SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen and female candidates are exempted from payment of examination fees.

Candidates must apply online only through the official SSB recruitment portal. Before applying, candidates should carefully read the detailed advertisement on the SSB official websites https://recruitment.ssb.gov.in/ and https://ssb.gov.in/. Applications received through any other mode will not be accepted. Candidates must upload a passport size photograph (JPG, 4–12 KB, 100×120 pixels, white background) and signature (JPG, 4–12 KB, 140×60 pixels) as per specifications. The application form can be edited until the closing date. After final submission, no changes will be entertained.

Important Note: A candidate can apply for only one post. No TA/DA will be provided for appearing in the recruitment tests. Candidates should be prepared for a stay of at least one week at the recruitment venue at their own expense.
